| Instructor Profile: | Tena Koutou Katoa, Toi Walker is my name, Maungaraki is my mountain, Ruamahunga is my river, Takitimu is my canoe, Ngati Kahugnunu Ki Wairarapa is my tribe, Te Ore Ore is my Marae Tihei mauri ora... I am a community health worker for Maori. Our organisation is called Whaiora Whaui meaning the "whole well being" I work with youth as an educator in drug and alcohol, smoking and sexual health awareness. I also work with the 60 year plus group to promote fitness and mobility where I teach 7 Tai Chi classes a week. I am a student of Dr Paul Lam and have been teaching the TCA program for 4 years. I enjoy practising the 73 soong and through personal experiences know that Tai Chi is the way for improved health. I have a passion to promote Tai Chi in my local area and in New Zealand. I do this by taking the TCA programme throughout the country. The ACC, a government organisation looking at ways to prevent injury, financially supports me because they are satisfied that Tai Chi prevents falls. With this support I am able to achieve my passion. |
